NFMC Federation Festival
Registration Deadline:

Federation is one of the most beloved events throughout the country by students and teachers alike—for good reason! Students progress every year from one class level to another, earning points, cups, and awards along the way. Student records are also transferable from state to state or different teachers (as long as they are NFMC members). Participation also looks great on college applications.
The earlier students begin, the better. Students can start at the easiest class level and skip one or two later; moving backward is not allowed. |
Students perform for a judge and receive evaluation on their performance of two memorized pieces. Required repertoire includes a selection from the Federation Bulletin (which highly promotes contemporary American composers) and a "choice" selection from standard piano literature.
Points are awarded based on the overall performance rating:
Superior = 5 Points
Excellent = 4 Points
Satisfactory = 3 Points
Etc.
For every 15 points a student collects, they are awarded a cup. These are very nice trophies any student would be proud to display! The cups also get a little bigger along the way.
Excellence in Artistry Award: Although this is a non-competitive event, 8-10 participants are awarded the Excellence in Artistry Award every year. Award comes with a certificate, an invitation to perform at the CFMTA Honors Recital, and a check for $25-50.
Federation Events
Piano Solo is the primary event students are encouraged to participate in.
Students may also participate in Theory and Piano Duet events. These events incur their own fees. Students continue to accumulate points for cups, but points may not be combined with other events. In other words, they may receive a cup for Piano Solo Performances and additional cups for their Theory Exams.
