Thank you, students! Spooky Hall was an Incredible Success!
Costumes, make-up, outstanding performances, spooky props, silly siblings, hilarious moments: I simply loved all the creativity students brought to their Spooky Hall presentations! As always, I am so blessed to work with such spirited students! Although we do get a little competitive around here, it is all in good fun and I appreciate how well-rounded the voting process went. I am so glad I don't get to pick the winners! Phew!
Thank you, everyone, for participating and giving it your all!

Theory Exams 101
There are 3 different theory examinations students may take.
1) The most difficult one is the GMTA Theory Exam. This exam includes a written portion and a listening portion. It’s a great way to highlight how students are doing in their musical development and general understanding of theory (how music works). Students who take this exam and pass will also be exempt from the GATE Exam at Local Auditions—less stress on competition day. This exam will take place during Fall Festival. Registration deadline is September 30th. Fee is $15.
2) The GATE Exam is a written test. There is no listening portion. This exam is required (4th grade and up) for anyone who participates at Local Auditions. Students must pass in order to proceed to Regionals. This exam will be given at Local Auditions. Fee is $10.
3) The Federation Theory Test is a bit easier than the previous two. Students may also collect theory cups as a separate event from their solo performances. Nice! This exam is given during Federation. Fee is $18.

Old News...Still Kinda Cool News
Springtime is always so busy that I forget some of the cool little things that happen along the way...or at least until I'm fortunate enough to stumble upon them again. I was just clearing out pictures and files from my phone when I saw this picture from May 20. My students Adam and Chloe had brought me their Whitewater Middle School 2023 Yearbook to show me that my name made a surprise appearance within its pages! Back in November of 2022, this amazing sibling duo had performed at the WMS Talent Show. The yearbook recognized their performance and that of their peers. What's also kinda cool about all this is that I happen to be a former WMS alumni (7th and 8th grade...yikes!). It's definitely a happy "come full circle" moment. If you want to check out Adam and Chloe's performance from that day, it is now available in the Videos Page under Miscellaneous Videos. Thanks to their mom for a copy!

Spivey Hall Children's Choir Spring Concert

Today I attended the Spivey Hall Children's Choir Spring Recital, where I had the great honor of hearing two of my students--siblings Thomas and Edward Stark--singing for the first time. On top of the that, Thomas accompanied the choir at the piano for the opening number! How cool is that?! It was wonderful to also receive their nomination for the Spivey Hall Children's Choir Outstanding Music Educator Award. To be recognized by such a prestigious organization within the same walls where once upon a time I used to study was a very surreal experience that I won't stop cherishing anytime soon. A very heartfelt THANK YOU to the Stark family!

Piano Guild Success!

Piano Guild took place yesterday at the Townsend Performing Arts Center in Carrollton, GA. It was about a 50-minute drive from Peachtree City to the University of West Georgia campus, but well worth the travel. Students performed for Guild judge Christine Smith on a beautiful grand piano in a theater setting. I felt extremely proud to hear the rave reviews from the judge after all the performances were over!
Though it's been around longer, Piano Guild uses a similar rating system as Federation. After performing, students receive a report card with comments from the judge and a checklist of possible Commendations (C's) or items that Need Attention (A's). (It's hard to rewire your brain to think A's are not so good!) This checklist thoroughly covers nearly all aspects of piano performance. Scores are awarded depending on the number of pieces performed, each individual performance, and testing on scales and cadences.
Congratulations to all participating students for doing such an incredible job!

This past Sunday, 20 award-winning students from our local chapter performed at the CFMTA Honors Recital. This was a truly breathtaking concert from start to finish! I am especially proud of the following RPS award-winners who were invited to perform:
Juanchy Fritschy
Sophia Madani Adam Phan Andrew Sexton Owen Sexton Lucas Tang Juan Torres Alex Yang |
Also, last Saturday Juan Torres won first place at the Jo Evans Competition in Decatur, GA. One of the challenges of this particular event is that competitors must perform at least one slow movement from a Classical sonata to showcase artistry, not just virtuosity. Juan has proven to have both! He'll now be performing two pieces at a special Winner's Recital on Monday for the Decatur Music Teachers Association.
Concluding our Spring Roundup of achievements, we have a new RPS Hall of Fame Inductee for 2023: Andrew Sexton! Andrew is now a State-Ranking competitor AND an Excellence in Artistry Award Winner. He has also excelled in Theory with a 100% score at Federation, not to mention his outstanding practice habits, consistent top-notch performances, and ability to integrate the smallest of details into his playing.
CONGRATULATIONS, EVERYONE!!!
SUMMER PLANS
The Studio Calendar has been updated for Fall.
Please let me know well in advance what weeks you will be traveling out of town. There are make-up days available during our studio off-weeks (see calendar). Please refer to the Summer Policies for any questions.

Federation - Results
Our Federation Festival took place this weekend and we had nearly 200 students from 16 teachers perform for 4 judges. I do want to thank my students and their parents for all of their hard work and support. I also want to thank Giao Nguyen and Sara Freeman for volunteering as parent monitors. It was a wonderful day indeed, with so many great accomplishments! And nothing beats seeing everyone coming and going throughout the day, whether excited or nervous or a little bit of both. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves!

Happy New Year!
I sincerely hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break!
I am very excited for our upcoming year and can’t wait to get back to lessons next week! The artistry I witnessed in 2022 was absolutely astonishing—and frankly, unparalleled. I am very grateful for all the hard work students put into every single event! Thank you again!

As a wonderful way to start 2023, I would like to invite everyone to a special event very dear to me. The CFMTA Solo Recitalist Event will have its second annual concert in just a few weeks. The intention is to provide a free concert for our local community, especially our students. It’s so important for them to hear what the piano is capable of doing in the hands of master performers—live and in person. Last year was our debut event, and we were very fortunate for its success.
This year, virtuoso Dr. You Ju Lee will be performing for us—and she is absolutely AMAZING!
Date: Sunday, January 29, 2023
Time: 3:00pm
Location: Fayette Friendship Community Church
(formerly known as North Fayette United Methodist Church)
847 New Hope Road
Fayetteville, GA 30214
I would greatly appreciate anyone willing to share this on their social media. This is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The program will include pieces by Schubert and Liszt.
In other news, I would like to congratulate several students for their achievements on the GMTA Theory Exam. This is one of the most difficult exams of its kind for pre-college students, especially due to the listening portion!

Looking ahead to 2023, please feel free to ask any questions pertaining to the various events available for students. You can visit the Full List of Events Page for more information. These events are optional but highly encouraged for the utmost experience. Many of them have deadlines in January.
I also need two parents to serve as Volunteer Monitors at Federation on March 18. You’ll have to sit in a judging room for 1 hour. You can bring a book, a device (on silent), or simply enjoy the performances. You will not be in the same room as your child will perform, but you will be scheduled during your child’s performance time. No parents or teachers are allowed in the judging rooms except for Volunteer Monitors. I will need to turn in the names of my two volunteers on January 15, so let me know if you would like to serve. Thank you!
See you all next week! Have a wonderful 2023!

End of Year Updates
The end of the year is upon us!
I hope everyone is getting excited for our upcoming recital! Rosters for the 2:30 and 4:30pm showtimes are available at the studio and in your inbox.
Our Christmas Recital will be at Word of God Lutheran Church (4486 East Highway 34, Sharpsburg, GA 30277). Please arrive a few minutes early. Students should dress nicely. Treats to share are welcome, but there will be cupcakes and cookies at the reception.
Looking ahead, I do need to remind everyone that there are upcoming deadlines in January for many of our Springtime activities. If you have not already confirmed that you would like to participate in the various events below, please do so as soon as possible. Double-check your calendars for any conflicts because some dates are on long weekends. Applications can get a little crazy, so advanced notice is always appreciated.
The first three events have a deadline of January 15:
My deepest thanks and gratitude to everyone for such a wonderful year! It was certainly busy and exciting and I will be looking forward to 2023 and all of the amazing progress our students will be making!

Fall Festival - What a Day!
Congratulations to all the students who participated today at the CFMTA Fall Festival! Everyone did so well performing in front of a packed audience while also being evaluated by a judge—never easy! Taking the stage is already accomplishment enough, so I'm always so proud of the many students willing to take on the challenge.
In any kind of evaluated event, it's good to remember that every judge is different. Results can often be about playing the right piece with the right interpretation for the right judge. A positive outlook is to simply do your best in the moment and have fun with it.
As always, I do like to recognize the students who excelled in their evaluations. The following students received the highest markings plus the bonus point:

Great job, everyone!
Many students also participated in the GMTA Theory Exam. These exams are graded off-premises by GMTA. We will have to wait about a month for the results. Students who pass this exam will be exempt from the GATE Exam during Local Auditions. Students will be notified when the results come in.

Juan Torres Performs at the GMTA Conference Masterclass with Concert Pianist Paul Barnes
Each year, GMTA offers a few of the top-ranking students from State Auditions a masterclass opportunity with an accomplished clinician. Juan Torres was one of the award-winners selected to participate this year. He performed in front of the GMTA audience and concert pianist Paul Barnes at the Bobbie Bailey Performing Arts Center in Kennesaw State University. Juan also received great praise from the virtuoso, including priceless feedback and tutelage. I was proud to be sitting in the audience watching Juan give one of his best performances to date and handle himself with confidence and professionalism well beyond his years.

Happy Halloween / Split Week

The Halloween Website is ready to go live tomorrow morning! It was a lot of fun to put together and I was beyond impressed by all the amazing performances and creativity. Get ready for some spooky fun!
Voting will end on Halloween Night and prizes will be announced on Nov. 2nd!
Also, next week is a split week. There will only be lessons on Monday and Tuesday. There will not be any lessons for Wed, Thurs, and Fri students. I will be attending the GMTA Conference, which is an annual highlight for me. Many of the state’s most respected pianists, educators, and professors attend, giving lectures and presentations. It always feels like going back to college for a few days—in a very good way. There is so much to learn!!!

This year, I’m especially excited because one of my students will be attending the conference. As one of the winners of the GMTA Auditions Competition, Juan Torres will be performing for concert pianist Paul Barnes in a Masterclass setting. Not only will he receive feedback from an accomplished virtuoso, but all in an audience of doctors and professors of Piano Performance—not nerve-wracking at all! Huge congratulations to Juan!
We are still waiting for Fall Festival schedules to be announced. The moment I receive this, I will notify everyone. Keep practicing!
Don’t forget to let me know if you’ll be able to participate on December 18th at our Christmas Recital. We are already choosing songs!
Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

Fall Updates
Fall is here! As most students know by now, that means Halloween and Fall Festival are just around the corner. Yikes!
~
Our Halloween Web Event will go live on Saturday, October 29. Videos are due on October 23 or earlier.
I have also added an optional element:
🎃Poet or Show It!👻
(A quick thanks to Grant for coming up with the name!)
If you wish to show off your creativity, you can submit a poem of 4+ lines or an illustration (in any medium)! These should be Halloween-themed or inspired by your performance piece.
Please submit these by October 16 or earlier.
I have started receiving some entries already and (woh!) I am moved and blown away. It’s incredible seeing this other side to my students!
~
Fall Festival will be on Saturday, November 12 ($20 fee). The venue has changed from last year. The location will be at North Fayette United Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Showtimes will occur at 9:00am, 10:30am, and 12:00pm (and perhaps 1:30pm if we have a lot of students participate). Please leave this date open. The schedule will be announced 2 weeks before the event. If you already have pending plans, let me know immediately so I can make the request prior to the deadline.
I’ll send out more reminders, but it’s important to remember that music must be memorized, absolutely no photocopies are allowed, and the deadline for registration is October 12.
~
For students who are competing at Local Auditions in February:
The Theory Exam requirement is back! These were suspended for the past two years due to Covid. You have the option to take the GMTA Theory Exam at Fall Festival ($15). The deadline for registration is October 1st. If you take the exam, you will automatically perform at the 10:30am showtime and then proceed to the exam room at 12:00pm. Students who pass will be exempt from the GATE Exam (a different exam that is required to qualify for Regionals) on the day of Local Auditions.
~
Also, I would like to say a sad farewell to Labsi, Debbie, and Raya as they continue the next exciting chapter of their lives in another country. Many blessings to them and their incredibly inspiring family!

Updates and Overview of Upcoming Events
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and settling into the new school year as smoothly as possible.
I am pretty excited about all of our upcoming events for the year, so I hope this overview is informative but not too overwhelming! Remember that I am here to help and will continue to send reminders and updates as they become available. Never hesitate to ask me a question.
Further details can be found throughout the site, so take a moment to bookmark this page, which is kept current and up-to-the-minute. You can follow the links below or explore the List of Events Page. I also keep flyers in the studio if you prefer hard copies.
Participation in our events is not mandatory, though certainly encouraged. The level of confidence I have seen students develop is extraordinary, so providing these opportunities will continue to remain a high priority.
Before going any further, I do want to note that the Studio Policies have been slightly amended. Changes are minimal, but please read them. The policies are not a contract, but I do ask that they are agreed upon while continuing lessons.
Okay, grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s get started!
👻A Halloween Website Event🎃

Video Deadline: October 23, 2022 (or earlier!)
Back by popular demand! How could I say no?! I appreciate my students’ excitement, and slight threats of mutiny…
Students will play, record, and submit a video of a “Halloween” themed song. Piano decor and costumes are preferred. Skits, effects, storylines, friends and family are even better. Please do not make your video any longer than 45 seconds over the performance of your song. And, it goes without saying, you can be spooky or funny, but keep it tasteful!
I will raise the stakes this year and offer a $50 Amazon gift card to a winning video. Participating students will decide the winner by vote. No, you can’t vote for yourself.
To view last year’s website for ideas/inspiration, please visit Spooky Hall.

Theory Exams
There are 3 different theory examinations students may take.

Students who take this exam and pass will also be exempt from the GATE Exam at Local Auditions—less stress in the competition. This exam will take place during Fall Festival. Registration deadline is September 30th. Fee is $15.

It has been a goal of mine and CFMTA to bring accomplished performers to our local area so students can see what the piano is capable of in a concert setting. You simply won’t want to miss this event, which is open to the public—so bring family and friends!)
Sunday, April 23, 2023 - CFMTA Honors Recital - North Fayette United Methodist Church, Fayetteville - 2:00pm
(For students who receive an OP at Local Auditions or Excellence in Artistry Award at Federation.)
May TBD, 2023 - Studio Spring Recital - Word of God Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg
Thank you for reading.
I know it’s a lot, but I am here to answer any questions you might have. More reminders will go out as we get closer to each event date.
Please let me know in which events you would like to participate. I do like preparing students as soon as possible. If you are uncertain, we can always start preparing—but please keep the deadlines in mind and notify me if a conflict comes up.

Spring Recital - May 22, 2022
Our 2022 Spring Recital has come and gone, and what a marvelous pair of shows! Students gave INCREDIBLE performances on Sunday. I am always so grateful for the amount of talent I am blessed to work with on a daily basis. Thank you, students! Thank you, parents!

Elena Dorozhkina Recital
Just wanted to say thanks to the students and families who came out to support this special event, especially on a Sunday afternoon. As I was giving the introduction, it was wonderful to see a few familiar faces in the audience. I'm glad that through CFMTA some of you were able to experience the magic of an accomplished pianist for the first time. This will be what I hope is the first of many annual concerts. If you'd like to see a few videos, please visit the Past Programs Page over at the CFMTA website. The Rachmaninoff pieces were my favorites, especially the last one.

Piano Guild
I hope students enjoyed themselves at Piano Guild today! It was a little bit of a drive to Carrollton, but certainly worth it! This was my first time participating so I appreciate all the students who agreed to give it a shot with me. Thank you! And I must say, I am now IN LOVE with Piano Guild. The grading system is awesome, emphasizing over 40 different performance elements and criteria. Furthermore, the judge was honest, the venue was outstanding, and the piano was incredible!
(On a side note: We might be able to do Guild on a Saturday next year. I'll keep everyone posted.)
Congratulations to all students for their hard work! Performing 3 pieces seemed like a daunting task at first, especially learning all of the accompanying scales and cadences, but you all did it with flying colors. Perhaps we can work our way to becoming National Winners (10 Pieces) in time!

Just wanted to share...
This morning I was elected to serve as CFMTA President for a second term. Pretty cool! I loved serving our members and their students during one of the most difficult times for private piano teachers. Even in a pandemic, CFMTA was able to nearly double its membership, never cancel an event, and receive its first ever Local Chapter of the Year Award.
Last week I was also elected to serve as Secretary for GMTA (our State Chapter)! I didn't think they were watching! I have great respect for this organization. Their programs have been a constant source of inspiration and I can't wait to be more involved behind the scenes.

Important End of Spring Updates - Thank you for reading!
Spring Recital
Our Spring Recital is just around the corner! Students have been working especially hard and I cannot wait for everyone to hear how well they have been progressing!
Please visit the Spring Recital Roster and make a note of your showtime.
Students must have all recital pieces ready by the end of this week. Music does not have to be memorized for the recital. Please dress nicely. Anyone wanting to bring a treat to share at the reception, thank you!
No lessons this Friday (May 13) - Piano Guild
Friday students, please remember there are no lessons this Friday due to Piano Guild. I will be assisting at the event. Our lessons on Jan 7 were a makeup for this date.
Good luck to students who are participating! We are looking forward to it and already seeing a huge difference in their scales! When the pressure’s on, it’s always more exciting and rewarding to practice.
Summer Lessons
Please let me know of any summer out-of-town plans you might have when you will not be able to attend lessons. For convenience, I am setting aside a few make-up dates (for lessons that fall in June or July). These will take place on the following Tuesdays during off-weeks: May 24, 31, and June 28.
Lessons may also be made-up during regular studio hours if there are cancellations. Don’t hesitate to check-in with me. Thank you for your understanding.
You can download the most updated Studio Calendar or pick one up at the studio.
Dr. Elena Dorozhkina - In Recital
Please make time this coming Sunday (May 15) to come out and support a little project I have been working on. The concert will take place at:
North Fayette United Methodist Church
847 New Hope Rd.
Fayetteville, GA 30214
3:00pm, doors open at 2:45pm
It’s incredibly important for students to experience an accomplished solo pianist performing live. CFMTA will need all the help we can get to make this an annual event featuring a variety of solo classical pianists, but it cannot happen with empty seats. If you cannot make it, please take a moment to pass it along to family and friends on your favorite social media platform or via email. All are welcome and it is free of charge. You may forward the flyer (PDF or JPG) as you see fit.
Goodbye to Samuel and Sarah
It is always sad to lose great students. Samuel and Sarah are moving and will be sincerely missed. They have been wonderful to teach, meticulously organized, always prepared with daily practice, funny, polite, and great conversationalists to boot. I wish them all the luck and blessings in their new adventure—to them and their exemplary parents. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your amazing family!

CFMTA Honors Recital
The CFMTA Honors Recital was incredible! Easily one of my favorite events this year. We heard twenty award-winning talents from our local area representing six different teachers. How awesome to have the very best-of-the-best performing under the same roof! As President of CFMTA, I am grateful to have such a wealth of talent also representing our local chapter. Every performer was solid, prepared, technical and artistic. It was very evident why they were awarded!

State Auditions - Results
The GMTA Auditions Competition came to an end on April 23rd with the State Round. Saturday was a long day for our competitors! Fortunately, it was also a beautiful day for a 2-hour drive. Piedmont University was an all-Steinway Piano campus with some of the coolest soundproofed practice rooms I've ever seen—like being on a spaceship!
Congratulations to all students who made it to the State Auditions! I cannot overstate what a remarkable task this is—you have surpassed several hundred other students since the start of this event back in February! No matter the final outcomes, it's so important to remember this achievement. We take small steps on a long musical journey, all while discovering new strengths or weaknesses to harness and develop. Constant feedback from a variety of judges and professionals in the field keep us moving forward and learning. All competitors have now been heard by some of the most respected and accomplished pianists in our state.
How amazing is that?!?!
Additional congratulations to the students who have ranked at the State Auditions:

I must take a brief moment to highlight the significance of Juan's victory as the 3rd Place winner. It takes an unbelievable amount of dedication to achieve this kind of success and recognition. His commitment to his practice is extraordinary and a reminder that persistence and hard work are vital.
Lily also had amazing success at State, earning the second highest rank possible. If only she knew what she had been up against!
Chloe and Adam will now be joining the RPS Halls of Fame! I've been looking for an excuse to have them as the next inductees. They made it too easy for me! Woo-hoo!
(To learn more about how the ranking system works, please visit the Local Auditions Page, or to see the full list of State-Ranking students for our local chapter, please visit the CFMTA Website.)

Federation!
Another wonderful event has come to an end. It goes pretty quickly when you think about it. We spend months preparing, practicing, trying to get every detail just right. Then the day arrives, nerves escalate, fingertips grow cold; all that work just to play a couple of songs for a judge…and it's over—just like that. But that sigh of relief…it's pretty awesome. And pretty fun! Plus, the invaluable performance experience you have now accumulated goes with you wherever you go; beyond piano, in fact. Your work is now documented, preserved, a record of your determination and willingness to meet your commitments.
Federation 2022 is in the books!
Small participation certificates will be going home with everyone this week. Parents, if you don't already, please keep a file in your filing cabinet of certificates, whether from Federation or other events. The only participation certificates I will ever give are those for evaluated events where a rating has been earned. You will want to refer to these certificates (and have evidence) of the many commitments a student has fulfilled, especially with college applications or transferring. After running the administrative side of this national event, these certificates saved me a great deal of time in locating transfer records. You never know what the future holds!
Thank you to all of our participants for their continued bravery. Everyone did such an amazing job and I could not be more proud of you for stepping up to the challenge and handling yourselves in such exemplary manner at the festival. No matter the outcome, we always learn from these opportunities and keep growing as we travel down our own unique road.

Spring Updates
I hope everyone has had a wonderful Winter season and looking forward to Spring!
Below are a few important updates.
Piano Guild - Friday, May 13
I am incredibly happy to announce that Ramos Piano Studio will now be a member of the National Piano Guild Auditions! This is one of the most respected Festivals in the world, due in large part to its more demanding criteria for participation.
Please let me know by March 26 if you would like to be enrolled.
For more information, please visit the Piano Guild Page.
Spring Recital - Sunday, May 22
Our Studio Spring Recital will take place once again at Word of God Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg. There will be two available showtimes: 2:00 and 4:00pm.
Please let me know by April 30 if you will be able to participate.
For more information, visit the Spring Recital Page.
I look forward to seeing everyone there!
Federation - Saturday, March 26
Federation Festival will be at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City.
Students should arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to their scheduled performance time. When you check in, students must line up at their judge’s station, so please know your judge number.
No one will be allowed in the evaluation rooms except the judge, student, and volunteer monitor. Parents will stay in the registration area while students perform.
Upon entering the church, keep in mind that as you walk up the stairs there will be evaluations occurring in the Sanctuary. Please enter the church respectfully and quietly (phones silenced) so that a student performing is not disrupted.
Also, students must remember to bring their original music—no photocopies. Any missing music may result in disqualification or playing for judge’s comments only—no rating or points. Music should be memorized and handed to the judges, so please keep your music books presentable.
Any students taking the theory test will need to check back in after they perform. They will then be escorted to the theory testing room.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. Thank you!

Local Auditions! Results! What a day!
Congratulations to all students who participated today at the CFMTA Local Auditions. This was the first round of the GMTA Auditions Piano Competition, which is also the largest competition of its kind in Georgia.
Everyone should be so proud for taking on this kind of challenge. Performing for two formidable judges is no easy task. Dr. You Ju Lee and Dr. Francis Leach could not stop raving about how amazing our students are in our local area—and I could not agree more.
I would like to recognize my students who received an Outstanding Performance Award and will be moving on to Regionals. If you would like to see a complete list of winners, you can find it on the CFMTA Local Auditions Page.

Owen Sexton performs at the CFMTA Huu Mai Masterclass
Owen was invited to the Huu Mai Masterclass hosted by CFMTA. He did a phenomenal job performing the incredibly difficult 3rd Movement of Franz Schubert's Sonata in A Major, D. 664, which he will also be competing with at Local Auditions. Congratulations, Owen!

Joshua Jiang and his friends win 3rd Place at the Rising Star Middle School Talent Show!
A quick congratulations to Joshua for earning the 3rd Place award at the Rising Star Middle School Talent Show! Wow! The fact that three middle-schoolers got together, formed a small ensemble, and selected the Prelude from Dmitri Shostakovich's Five Pieces for 2 Violins and a Piano still leaves me in absolute awe. My hat goes off to these three amazing kids! Very inspiring!

Happy New Year!
(And updates!)
(And updates!)
Thank you again for such an amazing pair of recitals last month!
The studio ran extremely well in 2021, so I only have a few minor requests to make.
1) Practice is always the biggest challenge in learning piano, or any musical instrument. I will be putting extra emphasis on this in 2022 and requesting that all students follow the requirements in the studio policies. Much of our work happens at home, and this cannot be done without parental support, which I always appreciate.
2) I would like to encourage students to participate in a theory test event of some kind. It’s very important to keep progressing in both our playing skills AND musical knowledge. Although I test theory in all of my students, it’s great affirmation (for student, teacher, and parents) when we test outside of our lessons as well. Federation offers this opportunity on the day of the event. Let me know if you’re interested as soon as possible. (Additional fee, see below.) Students participating in Local Auditions: you are already required to take the GATE Exam, so Federation Theory is not necessary—unless you really enjoy it and want those extra cups!
3) Due to a new non-local distributor for piano book/sheet music orders (they are sadly going extinct), there will be an additional fee of $0.50 per book to cover shipping costs. My prices will generally still be cheaper than Amazon, on average by $1-2. Amazon has gotten very expensive for piano music, especially Federation music (sometimes triple!). This is a service I want to continue providing in order to keep lessons running smoothly.
4) Our inboxes keep getting fuller! I will send out notices through the Remind app whenever a studio-wide email such as this has been sent out. Please read emails.
5) Visit the List of Events Page on the website often. (I also added a new little glossary of types of events.)
Upcoming Deadlines: (Click links for more info)
January 8 - Essay Contest - Free
January 14 - Junior Composers Competition - $20 Fee
January 14 - Masterclass - Free
January 14 - Federation - $25 per event, $15 Theory Test
January 19 - Local Auditions - $30
January 30 - Poetry Contest - Free
Things are already moving too fast, I know! But I’m here if you have any questions!
Thank you all and I look forward to an amazing year!!!
