Piano Arrangements of Popular Music
For Students ~ By Teacher
For Students ~ By Teacher
From time to time, little departures from standard piano literature into more familiar territory can be fun and refreshing.
Despite the numerous piano arrangements of popular music available in published format (or online tutorials), they tend to lack much "pianistic" sense, are usually difficult to play, and require more time than I would prefer for a student to devote. The end result is usually dry and even boring—often direct transcriptions of awkward notes never intended for solo piano, such as vocal slides or excessive lyric syllables. Piano arrangements sound best when they are re-imagined at a student’s level of playing, while still conveying the songwriter’s original intent (or as close to it as possible in an instrumental setting). This makes the music way more exciting to learn and even more enjoyable to hear. They also make great bargaining chips!!!
If you are a teacher, please note that I usually summarize technical elements in the product description. I also provide a "playing level" estimate and give examples of common method books that a student has previously mastered or is currently studying. Fingering and pedal markings are often suggested in the score, especially for earlier levels.
Requests: I only take new requests from hard-working students, but I can check to see if I have previously arranged something you're interested in and make it available.
