Song Improv Project
​March 2020

As we switched to virtual lessons at the start of the pandemic, I created a fun 2-part competition called the "Song Improv Project". In Part 1, students were given four left-hand notes which could not be modified, though they could be played singularly or repeatedly in quarter- or eighth-note rhythms. Students would then have to create an original right-hand melody, practice it, and record a video for consideration. In Part 2, all compositions were transcribed and randomly re-assigned so that students could learn each other's compositions within a short timeframe. I'm still very proud of this little endeavor. It was an absolute blast and 12 students volunteered to participate. Below are a few of the submissions.
