Prelude

Picture
Well well well! What have we here?
A brood of tricksters drawing near
With oPen bags, so crystal clear
It's treats they want, not souvenirs!

But fooL me thrice, indeed I fear
It's time for me to disappEar
I'll tip and toe, won't bend the ear,
Until this act slips into gear.

Chapter oNe

Picture
Barstools spin, though no one sits,
Glasses tilt toward unseen lips,
Keys that play without a toucH,
An eErie song that breaks the hush.

Here the chef has fallen ill
The waitress tends a frozen grill
Sticky tables, Messy floors
No fooD or drink withiN these doors!

Picture
I've got no rhythm for a dance
And when I sIng I'm out of tune
Words go missing, slip my mind
Every syllable out of beat

And though I write the sweetest song
My heart so pure, a hopeFul croon,
I cannot find that perfect line
To bring mY dearest back to life...

apter Three

Picture
And now as shadows quickly fill
The road that leads to Manor Hill,
A sumMoned waGon soon arrives
To cArry guests, though no one drives.

Wheels that creak like ancient Bones,
Their Fate of which remains unknOwn.
Whispered taleS of rides before,
While truTh gets lost in silly lore.

Chapter Four

Picture
The mAnor door stands grand and wide.
Its hingEs give a warning cry,
A fog that soon solidifies
Into a shape that sight denies.

A face defoRmed by years of hurt
And hands as old as weathered dirT
That grip a staff much like a cane
With eerie shapes carveD in its grain.

Intermission

Never look beyond the music
Nor to the ones who live and lived.
Though the songs may be amusing
Poetry is found within...

If you search, you'll find a clue that's
Deeply hidden in the contents.
Once decoded, read its message
There's a prize...if you can find it!

Chapter FIVE

Picture
In a hall that dimly glows
StaNds a clown in tattered clothes,
A wicked grin, a comic pose
And bloody-red his big fAt nose.

He honks it once and takes a step,
A fright indeed, a horrid threat,
So off yoU run from where you came
As now the manOr's hunger wakes!

Chapter six

Picture
From a patch the pumpkin came,
Growing cold and quite untamed.
It schemed a prank, a little game
To eat the beans from stalks and frame!

Soon its skin grew sewn and stitched,
A bellY fuLL of beans and stIcks
Brought inside to sulk and sag
Oh, What a comfy sad bean bag!

I've beEn waiting for so long
For some friends to come along.
Boredom means to do me wrong
Worse than playing the same song...

For all eternity...

But finally you have arrived!
It's a glee I can't descriBe
!
I've got miles and miles of gauze
To binD you tightly just because...

I want a mummy.

Chapter EIGHT

Picture
Many mirrors have rEflected
All the treats that you've collected
As the tunes that you've perfecteD
Chase the daRk that once protected...

Beasts and ghouls, a sneaky host,
The mAnor fools and lurking ghosts,
All the rooms with hidden doors
Now besieged by light restored.

Epilogue

Picture
Soon the sun begins to rise,
Columns reach toWard the sky.
Gables cast a stronger shade
As manor spirits scornf'lly fade.

Nightmare music falls a-slumber,
TrickstErs exit, once outnumbered,
Souls that sigh with much relief
Some with groans of disbelief.

But somewhere deep inside
A little flame spaRks back to life.
It bides the tide of time
Like a bell awaits its chime.
